Two terms come up again and again in digital product design: UI design and UX design. Both are closely linked and yet they are not the same thing.

UI design and UX design describe different areas of design. UI focuses on the visible interface of a product, UX on the entire user experience. The most important differences can be summarised in four criteria:
UI design and UX design interlock and cannot be considered independently of each other. UI creates the visible interface, UX ensures the process behind it. Only the combination results in a usable product.
A good UI design reinforces the impact of a well-thought-out UX: if the user is comfortable with the interface (UI), the underlying system (UX) can also play to its strengths.
Conversely, a good UX cannot be fully effective without a clearly designed UI.
Or to put it more sharply: even the best UX design can be completely undermined by a bad UI design and thus made useless.

The tasks of UI and UX designers differ, but complement each other in everyday project work and usually run in parallel. UI designers and UX designers work closely together so that a product is visually convincing, easy to understand and enjoyable to use.

- Definition of colours, fonts, symbols and layouts for a consistent look.
- Development of icons, animations and visual effects that make the interface look lively.
- Development of design systems and style guides so that all interfaces remain consistent.

- Creation of wireframes and prototypes that illustrate processes and functions.
- Usability testing with real users to identify errors and dead ends.
- Evaluation of feedback and data to gradually improve the product.

UI and UX Design — Common Questions and Answers
An interface can look visually appealing without the user experience being well thought out. In practice, however, this means that users have difficulties and do not like using the application.
Good user guidance can be designed, but without a clearly designed interface it remains invisible. It is only through UI design that a planned user experience can actually be experienced by users.
UI and UX are intertwined and mutually reinforce each other. Only this combination ensures that a product both works in an understandable way and is visually convincing.
UX designers develop processes, structures and prototypes. UI designers translate these into a visual appearance with colors, typography, and icons. Together, they ensure that a coherent product is created in the end.
